Parkland Music Festival Rules and Regulations

Hello, everyone!

With Parkland Music Festival just around the corner, I thought I'd share their code of conduct on here. It's important information, so please take a moment to read through it. (Taken from the 2020 syllabus, available on their website.) Since everyone has busy lives, I highlighted the most important parts. (The 'don't do's' are in orange.)

PARKLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL CODE OF CONDUCT
The Parkland Music Festival Committee appreciates every person’s effort in making the Parkland
Music Festival a success. We are striving to make this event a positive experience for everyone. To
make sure that we achieve this goal, we have set forward some basic guidelines for all to follow. It is
vitally important to make sure that all of our participants are treated fairly and that the adjudicator is
basing their judgments from a purely unbiased scope. Please see below for our code of conduct:
1. No individual should discuss their own student or any other participant with any
adjudicator before a session, during a session, after a session, or during breaks.
2. All individuals must remain quiet during the session. No individual should, for any
reason, interrupt an adjudication or performance. Failure to comply may result in a
student’s disqualification and a request for the responsible party to immediately leave.
3. If any individual is required to leave during a session, only do so after a performance
or adjudication; never during.
4. All mobile devices must be turned off or set on silent mode before entering any
performance venue.
5. Flash photography is not permitted. We ask that a performance may be video recorded only
by the parent or guardian of the performer. We ask that adjudications not be recorded.
6. Marks (for the adjudicator’s reference only) should not be influenced or observed by
any individual.
7. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator. Do not try to influence
an adjudicator’s decision regarding awarding or withholding of scholarships.
8. Provincial recommendation is made at the discretion of the adjudicator. Do not try to
influence an adjudicator’s decision regarding Provincial recommendations.
9. All individuals shall treat teachers, volunteers, parents, students, adjudicators, and the
public with respect.
10. Food and drinks, with the exception of water, are not allowed inside any performance venue.
11. If there are any complaints, questions, or concerns, please see the session Secretary,
Door Monitor, or a member of the festival committee. Please do not approach
adjudicators with concerns.
ADDITIONAL PARENT / GUARDIAN GUIDELINES
12. Please ensure your children are supervised and well behaved in all venues.
Failure on behalf of an individual to follow all of the above guidelines may disqualify their student(s)
eligibility to receive scholarships and Provincial recommendation.

And this is taken from the Local Rules:
11. Entrants should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the class time to check in with the door monitor.
Please clearly mark your music with your name and page number. Please enter the performance
venue when the secretary announces your class or door monitor indicates it is okay and give your
music (no reproductions) to the secretary. [The secretary will be the person who comes out and tells you when it's fine to come in. Don't go into the room where the performance is taking place until you're told to do so, otherwise you may be interrupting the adjudication!]

Hooray! You've read all the way to the end! Have a great week, and don't let yourself or your child stress about Festival. After all, it's not about winning -- it's about learning. :)
